September 16, 2014. An Eight-Hour Day - 120 Miles on Down the Line.

September 16, 2014.  An Eight-Hour Day - Only 120 Miles on Down the Line.  Just looking at the title to this entry, you'd think we averaged 15 MPH today.  In a way, I guess we did.  However, the 8 hours weren't spent on the road. Over six of them were spent sitting in the Husker Chevrolet service waiting room in Lincoln, Nebraska.  While there, we saw the better part of four movies.  They also provide free popcorn and soft drinks in the Husker Chevrolet waiting room.

Jason, our designated service attendant was just that, attentive all day long.  The two major delays resulted from the fact that the service department had 70+ cars or trucks to repair today.  It also took longer than reasonable to get the parts to complete the repairs.  Jason assigned his "top tech" to the job.  We hope he lives up to his billing and we hope the shimmy is gone, forever.  But, by the time we know whether we are fixed, we will be hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles from Lincoln and Husker Chevrolet.

Tonight finds us in the Mormon Island State Recreation Area campground near Grand Island, Nebraska.  The SRA is so named because it was the winter encampment for Mormon immigrants in 1884-85.  In fact, if you look closely at the entry sign to the area, you will see a Mormon handcart beneath it.  Many Mormons had no horses or oxen.  They moved all their possessions in a handcart, like the miniature one you see, 1200 miles from Iowa to Salt Lake City, UT.  There were hardships and tragedies aplenty for those answering Brigham Young's call of converts to Utah.

We have stayed here at least twice before.  It is a small, but nice campground.  The best thing is that the interior roads are level, no hills to climb on the bikes.  Hills are something old people try to avoid.  We've succeeded tonight.

Gotta go now so we can figure out were we will be tomorrow night.  Tough duty, huh.  Bet you wish you were here.  I don't.  Harvey is crowded enough with just the two of us.
