May 14, 2017. Mother's Day. Today is Mother's Day. I think of Imogene and Sue, saintly women they were. I think of Annie Farkley, the quintessential mother. I think of my daughters, three of whom are lucky enough to be mothers and the one who is a terrific aunt and who wants to be a mother. What a sorry place this world would be without mothers who willingly bear the pain of childbirth and who nurture, teach and love unconditionally. We have just one day each year on which we officially honor them. Shouldn't we have a Mother's Week or a month for mothers? Better yet, let's honor them each day of the year by expressing our love and gratitude and demonstrating our respect for the vital roles they play in our lives. That's a good idea, isn't it?
The weather is cooperating here in Door County. Today was filled with clear skies and sunshine. It is still a little cool, but comfortable under a lap blanket in the sun. We walked morning and evening and found some photo-worthy scenes for you. You will quickly identify the black and white warbler. He was hanging out at our campsite this afternoon. You may remember the donkey in the tree stump. It is a picture which I have taken before; I just can't remember whether I included it in a prior blog. The other pictures, except one, are self explanatory.
We plan to have breakfast tomorrow at the White Gull Inn. The White Gull Inn is home of the Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast. The stuffing is cream cheese. I had the French toast there several years ago and I have been thinking about it since. I think I will end that longing tomorrow morning.
Goodnight.
