May 7, 2017. Why Did the Turkey Cross the Road?

May 7, 2017.  Warren Dunes is in our rear view mirror, but I couldn't leave without squeezing off a couple of pictures of the dunes and Lake Michigan.  The final picture is the five-mile long Mackinac Bridge, one of the longest in the world.

I took some more barn pictures for you, but the picture I like best is the five turkeys crossing a dirt road.  The picture was actually taken through the windshield while driving along Interstate 75.  My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the turkeys crossed the road to get away from the traffic on the interstate.  Turkeys are smart and brave animals.  Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey, rather than the eagle, to be our national bird.  About the turkey, he said, " . . . the turkey is . . .  a much more respectable  bird . . . a true original native of America . . . he is, though a little vain & silly, a bird of courage, and would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his farm yard with a red coat on."

This is day three of our trip and we had our fourth problem with Harvey.  This time, I noticed swaying which I first thought was due to the highway surface and wind.  The more I thought about it, we have been on uneven surfaces before and we've battled wind before without Harvey drifting in our lane.  It occurred to me that me might have an under-inflated tire on one of the rear dually tires.

So, I drove another 15 miles to a Pilot truck stop where for a mere $1.50, I purchased air.  The air cost 50 cents per minute.  Whoever said air is free?  But, as soon as I returned to the interstate, the swaying stopped.  I am turning into a real RV handyman!

I don't know what caused the tire to lose air.  I suspect I picked up a nail somewhere.  I'll check it again in the morning and if it has lost air, we'll need to go to a tire store to get it fixed.  That won't be easy.  The outside tire will have to be removed to get to the inside tire.  But, I don't want to go through the rest of this trip swaying on the highway.  A smart turkey like me wouldn't do that.

Tomorrow we will return to Mackinac Island.  The temperature will be in the mid-40s.  I don't know how much biking we will do, but it will be good to be back among familiar sights.

Goodnight.

Have you thought about a TMS - Tire Monitoring System?
I have one, but of course I don't use it.
