May 8, 2017. Hoofing it on Mackinac Island. We decided not to bike on the island today. It is cold and the wind made it colder. So, we ferried over, had lunch at Seabiscuit, walked around for several hours, bought some fudge and came home. One of the good things about coming here at this time is that the Island is pretty still. The summer crowds haven't arrived yet. We had the place pretty much to ourselves. It has been a quiet and relaxing good day.
Well, good with one exception. I checked the tire today and it is loosing air again. So, we have an appointment at 8:00 in the morning at George's Auto Body and Repair shop. The preliminary plan was to have the tire repaired this afternoon after we returned from the island. However, the technician who was going to do the work was called out on an emergency in Sault Sainte Marie, about 50 miles north of here. The other technicians at the shop were "up to their elbows" in other projects. So, we'll go back tomorrow.
It is supposed to be warmer here Wednesday. I think we'll stay on this side of the straits tomorrow and take the bikes to Mackinac then. We will leave here Thursday and drive 300 miles to Fish Creek, WI, Mackinac Island is known for its fudge and horses. Door County, WI, is known for its beauty and quietude. There are a variety of eateries there, many of which have become favorites. It just occurred to me that food plays a role in our decision to visit both places. I don't suppose you are surprised by that. Overeating is one of the few bad habits I have left.
It is late here. Goodnight.
