June 2, 2013. Typical Day in Door County

June 2, 2013.  Typical Day in Door County.  Today is Sunday and it was a typical day in Door County.  I arose early to read the Kansas City Star online.  We rode the bikes for about two hours, taking pictures of anything that looked interesting and a few of ourselves.  My favorite is the one of Annie wearing a mosquito net over her hat.  Angie gave us mosquito nets for our trip to Alaska.  We spent several weeks driving around the interior of Alaska and never needed the nets.  Annie felt the need for the net here.  To punish me for the mosquito net picture, she took the camera and photographed me doing exercise.  There's another picture taken later to ridicule me.  I will not accept ridicule.  I may be ridiculous, but I won't acknowledge it.

To credit Annie, the mosquitoes are plentiful here.  There were several in Harvey the night before last.  They kept buzzing around my head during the night until I turned on the light and engaged them in hand-to-hand combat.  That did not end well for the mosquitoes.  If they had left me alone, I would have left them alone.  I took a picture, not on the blog, of a mass of mosquitoes hovering over the sidewalk to the pier, waiting for a warm-blooded creature to pass by.  I tried to count them in the picture.  I stopped counting at sixty, all in a four-foot square.

It is cooler here now.  Today's high temperature was in the mid-50s.  Tonight, it will reach the 30s.  That will be the pattern for much of next week.  It could be worse.  We could be in a tent, sleeping on the ground.  On second thought, no, we couldn't be.  I passed the tent, ground-sleeping stage about twenty years ago.

We have one more day here.  It has been pleasant having a base camp and not moving every day to a different campground.  We will spend two nights at McLain State Park on lower Lake Superior.  We are still debating the Canadian swing.  We may decide to stay in good old America.  We'll see.

Tell Annie I can see a little open area in her shirt that the mosquitos could sneak in.
