Bargain Camping at Denali, May 25, 2011
Denali National Park, May 25, 2011. The per night charge is $11.00. That is about one cent per mosquito. I am typing this at the Mercantile where there is free Internet. But I am outside and Annie is standing behind me swatting mosquitoes. Good girl, that Annie.
The drive from Fairbanks to Denali is about two hours. Not bad at all. the road is pretty smooth with a couple of exceptions. The last time we were here, we stayed in a private RV park outside the National Park. The National Park is much nicer and more spacious.
BJ complained that Boo wasn't getting enough screen time. Odd that the others don't complain about their toys. So, all the toys get special attention tonight. As you scroll through the pictures, see if you can find them all on the big Denali sign. The next picture is a closer shot. But, don't look at it until you grow weary of looking at the more distant photo. Pretend it is like looking for Waldo.
Annie has decided that we will hike tomorrow rather than take the shuttle into the park. The shuttle bus is a six and one-half hour outing. Neither of us wants to be captive on a school bus for six and one-half hours. I hope the grizzly bears are well nourished here. Annie's little can of bear pepper spray may not protect us both. But, wait . . . I just remembered - I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun Annie. So, she can have her little can of bear spray. Then, she can protect me from the rear. Tee-hee.
