January 2, 2017, A Lazy Day on Padre Island. Reading, napping and walking sums up the day. It has been sunny and warm with the temperature reaching the mid-70s. The weather dude says it will turn colder the second half of this week. Daytime highs will be in the 50s and night-time lows in the low 40s. That is cold compared to the temperatures I had hoped to find here. However, night-time lows at home are predicted to be in the single digits. By comparison, we should be thankful. I'll work on that.
We brought out the puffy chairs this afternoon and sat outside for several hours. That is one of our favorite pastimes on these trips. Annie is in the midst of a nasty head cold. She is hoarse, her throat hurts and she coughs constantly. Being outside was therapeutic for her. Where did she catch the bug? She got it from me. She has it worse than I. I am sorry about that. But, it makes for an annoying cacophony of dueling coughs. I'll cough once and she'll cough twice. She'll cough three times and I'll cough once. It is like being in an echo chamber.
But, we'll be fine. It is better to have the illness here than at home where we'd normally be indoors where the germs just hang in the air. Here, the germs are carried away on the wind. Or, to borrow from a Bob Dylan song title, "Blowing in the Wind."
There was activity on the beach today. Some children were swimming in the Gulf. I didn't test the water, but I assume it was cold to the skin. If I were a kid, I'd have been in the Gulf, too. But, now I am older and wiser. Being old and wise won't keep me from wading in the Gulf before we leave here. Oh, the black bird depicted above is a Great-tailed Grackle. Pretty smart, huh? Well, not so much. I know that because I looked it up.
Our plans are still indefinite and fuzzy. We can stay here for seven days, maybe longer. However, today's pictures show about all there is to show. So, it is either repeat the same scenes, or move on to something different. Even if we move, I am not sure the scenery will be all that different. I suppose we could turn inland and get different scenery. However, we'll have to leave the Gulf if we do that. What to do, what to do? I don't get paid enough to make those weighty decisions. Annie will have to decide. I'll do whatever she says. See, I am not as stupid as I look. Good thing.
Is is supposed to be warm again tomorrow, much like today. I don't have any other great ideas, so I expect tomorrow to be much like today. See you then. Goodnight.

One of the most unique dead trees yet!
Clif says this reads like the Vernon County Record. You know, with all those puffy chairs and coughing fits. Emory thinks she got Papa sick. She is sorry. Angie says you wouldn't be swimming in the gulf you'd be swimming in Gum Slew Ditch. Miles says "Read it again, Mommy!"
