January 9, 2017. Walking, Biking and Hot Tubbing.
January 9, 2017. Walking, Biking and Hot Tubbing. Today was a day of getting to know our surroundings. After breakfast, we walked around the perimeter of the campground. I'd judge the size of the campground to be 40-60 acres. There are 400-500 campsites here. There are two swimming pools and a hot tub. There is a large recreation room with weekend meals and church services. There are golf carts everywhere you turn. I saw one that had a barbeque smoker on it and another which seats six.
We saw a number of vehicles with tags from our home state. We met Tom, a retired Southwestern Bell employee who now carves wood for a hobby and advocation. He and his wife spend three months here every winter. They both teach woodcarving and woodburning. They sell knives while roosting here. They have no problem filling their days.
So, we walked this morning. This afternoon, we biked for an hour. After biking, we went to the hot tub for a soak. No, we weren't sore. It just sounded like a good idea.
Today's pictures explain themselves for the most part. The final photo is a village of prairie gophers. Or, it may be a single, very industrious gopher. I thought it was interesting that the mounds are almost equal distance apart and in a line. I have no idea where the gopher(s) were headed, but they seemed to have a definite plan in mind. Do gophers have minds? I know they have brains and a central nervous system, but do they reason and plan their future? I don't think so. So, maybe the mounds were merely coincidentally in a line. What do you think?
Tomorrow will be a lot like today. I may skip the blog tomorrow. I have shown you most of what's here. I'll be back later this week. You look like you need a break, anyway.
Goodnight.

Don't leave me!!
The gopher looks to be a little bit OCD....
I like the palm tree shots!
Bicycle paths, walking paths, closer access to shopping and restaurants. Hot Tubbing! Pioneer RV Resort appears to more ‘funner’ than Mustang Island State Park. Interesting observation about prairie gophers. I would have guessed the sandy soil would collapse their tunnels and holes. Obviously an incorrect assumption. We’ll miss you tonight.
Maybe they are Minnesota Gophers down for the winter?
