October 6, 2017. I Become the Kid in the Candy Store. We drove up to the tip of Cape Cod today to Provincetown. We stopped at the visitor's center along the National Seashore and saw a few more lighthouses. That paled in comparison to the sights in Provincetown. If you are on the Cape, the visual explosion of colors and energy justifies the drive.
Provincetown has a year-round population of 3,000. In the summer months, it swells to 60,000, engorged by tourists. The Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact in the harbor of Provincetown. The community has been accepting of alternative lifestyles for nearly a century. It is still a destination for members of the LGBT+ communities.
The town has a reputation of also being an artists community. Residents have an obvious familiarity with the arts. The stores are painted in flashy, but appealing, colors. Many residents display art adjacent to their homes. In one of the pictures you will see an artist painting the Provincetown Public Library.
Provincetown is a feast for the eyes. For a guy who takes pictures, it is like being the kid in the candy shop. This page displays 23 of the best of more than a hundred that I took.
My shutter finger is tired. Goodnight.
