October 1, 2015, Warren Dunes State Park to Ypsilanti, MI. First Signs of Autumn.
October 1, 2015, Warren Dunes State Park to Ypsilanti, MI. First Signs of Autumn. It was a short drive today from the west side of Michigan to the east side, about 220 miles. But, we are seeing the first signs of autumn. As we were leaving Warren Dunes this morning, four wild turkeys crossed the road in front of us. As we approached, they scampered into the woods. If you look to the left of Annie's pointy finger, you will see one of the four. Do you see him? Look again.
The final picture above shows the early changing of colors. Okay, it isn't much, but it is the first we've seen on this trip. We will see more and more over the next several weeks. So will you if you continue to look at this blog.
Tomorrow, we will visit "One of the Country's Best Museums", the Henry Ford Museum. Among other features, we will see the birth home of the museum's namesake, Thomas Edison's Laboratory, the Wright Brother's home and bike shop, the Rosa Parks bus and the Kennedy Limousine. I'll have more to report after the tour is finished.
The working plan is to meander up the east side of Michigan, along Lake Huron. We will be watching the weather as meteorologists are predicting flooding along the east coast as Hurricane Joaquin approaches. We are unwilling to drive into floods. You understand that, don't you? Oh, there was a time when I would have considered that a challenge. But, no more. I am smarter now than I was then. Who said, "That's not hard." Was that you, Bob?
The second two pictures above should look familiar. You saw the same beach and dunes when we were at Warren Dunes in August. Tonight, we are staying in the Detroit Greenfield RV Park in Ypsilanti, about 25 miles west of the museum. The campgrounds are beginning to show readiness for Halloween, even though Halloween is 30 days into the future. Some campers love Halloween, obviously. And, we like seeing the decorations. They will increase as the scary day approaches.
Tomorrow, I will tell you more about Henry Ford, a man to be admired on some levels and a man who was flawed on several other levels. Ponder that until we speak again.
