October 7, 2015. A Quiet Day Around Town(s).

October 7, 2015.  A Quiet Day Around Town(s).  We visited Youngstown today, followed by a walking tour and lunch at Lewiston.   Youngstown is between Four Mile State Park and Lewiston.  It is the home of Fort Niagara, on the Niagara River.  There has been a fort on the site since the late 1600s.  Originally, it was held by the French.  It was taken by British forces during the French and Indian War.  It became a part of the United States with the Treaty of Paris which ended the Revolutionary War in 1783.

Fort Niagara is about all there is in Youngstown, so we drove to Lewiston.  We had lunch at Apple Granny's, then walked the main street in Lewiston.  There are bakeries, antique stores, bistros and all things old and quaint.  There is a welcome sign on one of the stores that Annie has coveted since first seeing it three years ago.  She tried to buy it from the store owner, but no deal.  Now the building is vacant but the sign remains.  She wants to contact the realtor to see if she can buy the sign.  "It spoke to me," she says.

We biked late this afternoon before grilling pork chops.  Dinner was good, if I do say so myself.  Well, actually Annie said that but I like repeating it.

Oh, we finally saw the lights of Toronto after dark tonight.  The haze hasn't completely lifted, but the skyline is prominent across Lake Ontario.  Toronto may be introduced to some Royals baseball fans before the season plays out.  Those two teams had the best won-lost records during the regular MLB season.

We will be here another day so I can take a conference call relating to the YMCAR late tomorrow afternoon.  We will then head east, again, for Vermont.  We will wake up there Saturday morning.

Stop by the blog when you can.  I like talking to you.
