January 12, 2017. Annie's Dolphin Disappears and Laundry Day.

January 12, 2017.  Annie's Dolphin Disappears and Laundry Day.  Last things first.  Today we did the laundry.  I took a nice picture of Annie bending over the washer.  That was the only picture I took.  I intended to show it to you.  But, Annie said that if I did that, I would be singing with the Vienna Boys Choir.   I don't want to be a soprano, so there is no laundry picture here.  Hear that Annie, there is no laundry picture here!

I have told you about the toy rubber dolphin that Annie found during one of our first walks on the beach.  She picked it up and laid it on the railing of the boardwalk in hopes that the child who lost it would find it.  I doubted her.  The next time we walked on the boardwalk, it was still there.  So, Annie moved it to a more obvious location on the railing.  The next time we passed by, it was still there.  However, today it was gone.  It had disappeared.

Now, did the child who lost the dolphin return to the beach and find it on the railing?  Annie thinks so.  I think it is unlikely.  I think someone who knew some child who would like the toy picked it up.  In the end, I don't think it matters.  Some child now has a toy because of Annie's random kind act.  Does that make her a saint?  No, of course not.  But it does make her a nice person.  I like her.

We found some canine friends on the beach.  The pictures were taken by the dogs' owner.  She saw me using the timer on the camera to take goofy pictures and asked if she could help.  While she took pictures, we became friends with her dogs.

Another picture shows a lady was walking her dog the easy way.  Maybe I should say she was riding while her dog walked.  It seemed to work okay until the dog felt the call of nature.  Its owner struggled a bit dismounting her three wheeler to scoop up the scat.  The best plans of mice and men oft go awry - Robert Burns.

Here's another quote for you.  Let's see who knows its source.  Some of my daughters will know.  The line is "Only the Rocks Live Forever."  Anyone, anyone, anyone?  Do you know the book and the author.  If so, you can leave a comment.  The winner will receive a major award.

The rocks may live forever, but the beach changes daily.  There are different waves, different flotsam and jetsam, different levels of light and sea-mist, different creatures washed up.  The sea level is different depending on the tides.  The birds look pretty much the same, but they are different birds, I think.  At least they don't answer to the same names I give them.  And that is a difference between the mountains and the beach.  The mountains remain unchanged.  The beach changes daily.  I like both.

Do you know the difference between flotsam and jetsam?  I thought not.  Flotsam consists of objects inadvertently escaping from a seacraft or, perhaps washed overboard or from a shipwreck.  Jetsam consists of objects "jettisoned" deliberately from a seacraft, perhaps to lighten the ship.  Makes sense doesn't it.

I am now completely exhausted from dispensing all the knowledge contained in this blog.  Goodnight.

Can't blame the pups for flocking to you! I would have, too!
