October 16, 2012 - Back Bear Campground, Florida, NY
October 16, 2012 - Back Bear Campground, Florida, NY. It is a short drive from Thomaston, Connecticut, to Florida, so long as you're talking about Florida, New York. We found a commercial campground about 25 miles from West Point, one of the few at this latitude which is still open.
We have noticed more trees of color as we travel south. It reinforces our plan to move south from here. The first step will be to travel to Amish country in Pennsylvania, then to Gettysburg to tour the battlefield of the conflict which changed the course of the Civil War. The second part of the plan is under reconsideration. We will decide whether to continue south to Lexington, VA, after we finish the Pennsylvania portion of the trip.
Tomorrow, we will move to Round Pond Military Recreation Area which is three miles from the gate of West Point. We'll tour the Academy in the afternoon. Thursday, we'll attend the activities held in honor of Ike Skelton. Friday, we'll move south.
We biked around the campground this afternoon. Look closely at the picture of Annie on the bike. The reflection in the rear view mirror shows the joy on her face at being outside on a beautiful fall day. That reflection makes the entire trip worthwhile.

The Tioga made me chuckle. Compared to that boat, you're trucking around in a glorified conversion van.
