January 7, 2020. Dewey Destin's Seafood, Navarre and National Seashore.

January 7, 2020.  Dewey Destin's Seafood, Navarre and National Seashore.  Today, we went to the Naval Aviation Museum - more about that next time.  Today's blog has photos from yesterday when we drove east on the island, across the National Seashore, to Navarre for lunch at Dewey's.  We went to Dewey's not just because we love the name.  The food is really good, too.

Years ago, we went to the Dewey's, in Destin, 20 miles further east.  We think that must be the original, because it is on a bay and the entrance is an alley past warehouses and a commercial area which serves as a feedlot for scraggly and ugly herons.  The original is largely an open-air restaurant with only a few booths inside.  If you flip back to earlier blogs, you'll see the original.

But, now, there is a new, fresh, up-to-code Dewey's in Navarre.  That was our outing yesterday.  On the way back, we stopped and walked the beach on the National Seashore between Navarre and Gulf Breeze.

One of the things I like about the Gulf is the many and varied pastel colors of homes.  After a picture of our condo, I've given you another sampling of Gulf housing, above.  The building codes must be lax in Navarre.  The houses are as different as you can imagine; from a brick home on stilts to a domed home with less than 750 square feet of living space.

As we walked the beach, one fella had seven fishing rods and reels set up.  I asked him if he was catching any fish.  "No, and I don't care."  He must be retired.  Annie kept walking as I engaged the fisherman.  He nodded in her direction.

"How'd she get you to do this?" he asked.  I assumed he meant strolling on the beach.

I responded, "After 57 years of togetherness, I've learned to just do what she says."

He drawled, "That's why you've been together 57 years.  I never learned that.  That's why I am on wife number four.  And, that one has been at her sister's house the last three months."

There is wisdom on the beaches.

Next time, I'll tell you about our embarrassing trip to the Naval Aviation Museum.

Goodnight.
