May 12, 2016. St. Ignace to Fish Creek, WI; Wanna See a Barn?
May 12, 2016. St. Ignace to Fish Creek, WI; Wanna See a Barn? From where we were to where we are, there are a lot of barns. There are also churches and dilapidated fishing cabins. From there to here, it is 320 miles across the Upper Peninsula. People who live in the UP are called Yoopers. There may be more barns than Yoopers in the UP.
We are in Peninsula State Park again. There are nearly 500 campsites here. Tonight, there are fewer than 50 campers here. We may be pushing the camping season a bit. In fact, the campground - there are three different campgrounds in the park - that I reserved in December doesn't even open until tomorrow. Tonight we are in one of the other two. We will move in the morning.
So, we will be here the next nine days, biking, eating and relaxing. We will return to the Door County Bakery, Sweetie Pies, Wilson's Restaurant and maybe Al Johnson's, the restaurant with goats on the roof. The good news for you is that the barn pictures will stop until we return to the open road. It is good to be back here. I'll try to show you something you haven't seen before. That won't be easy since this is our fifth trip here in five years.
Oh, the propane gas detector alerted three nights ago. Neither of us could smell gas. I shut the alarm down then went outside to turn off the propane. We haven't turned it back on since then. Today, I stopped by an RV store and picked up another gas detector. Sometime in the next few days, I will try to remove the old one and replace it with the new one. That should be good for a few laughs. Annie Farkley is reassured that the only tool required is a screwdriver. We'll see how much damage I can do with just a screwdriver. I am pretty confident something bad will happen.
Stay tuned.
