May 19, 2016. All About Town.

May 19, 2016.  All About Town.  Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast is the lead breakfast meal at the White Gull Inn.  It was featured on one of the national television morning shows.  You can't eat breakfast at the White Gull without having the French toast.  Guess what I had; about 2000 calories of French toast, that's what.

We biked into town today.  Afterwards, I relaxed in a puffy chair for a while.  Then, in an uncharacteristic burst of energy,  I tried to repair the awning brace, I refilled the DEF tank, checked the oil and filled the windshield washer tank.  Later, we walked to town for pizza at the Wild Tomato Wood Fired Pizza Grille.  Just down the street is the Not Licked Yet custard place.  It was nearly on the way back to the campground so we decided to drop in.  We are eating our way around the Great Lakes.

There was an interesting show on the pond at the custard place.  A mallard hen was protecting her eleven ducklings from a couple of mean-spirited mallard drakes.  She was fierce.  One of the pictures show the ducklings huddled together as their mother battles a drake who came too close to her fledglings.  Despite the temperament of the drakes, they were beautiful birds with their iridescent green heads.

I have mentioned the birders in the campground.  This morning, we saw a dozen or more carrying binoculars and cameras around the wet area across the road.  We followed the same trail on our walk to town and saw a Sandhill Crane (Yes, I looked it up) and red-winged blackbird, perfectly alligned.  I like the picture because it was shot just as the crane raised up on its toes and spread its wings.  A little luck can make a pretty good picture.

Finally, there is a tree in our campsite that has a face on it.  The eyes and nose appear to have been make by woodpeckers.  I have no idea what aberration resulted  in the mouth.  But, there are strange things in nature.  As Yogi Berra said, "You can observe a lot by just watching."  He also said, "I never said most of the things I said."

On that note, goodnight.

Did you give them your famous talk on the importance of civility in the duck pond?
